puttin' on the ritz

Once upon a time, two families lived in the Middle of Nowhere, or Upstate New York. These two families each had one daughter.  Each daughter grew up, moved far away from the Middle of Nowhere, and settled in Major Metropolises in different parts of the world.  Once settled, these two young women started their own families, and raised their babies in quite a different environment from what they knew growing up.  Now, does that mean these babies will have more materialistic upbringings?  No.  Does it mean they'll have access to the latest styles in baby wear and baby gear, and opportunities to dress up more often?  Definitely.

all dressed up with nowhere to go

Here is one of those babes, proudly sporting a three-piece suit, sans dinner jacket, complete with pocket square and, oh yeah, a polka-dot bow tie.  This blue-eyed cutie is Philip, and he is growing up in Brussels.  Perhaps you're wondering what fabulous event Philip was attending?  Well, Philip was not on his way to the Brussels Philharmonic, nor was he dressed up for an evening wedding.  He was planning to wear his penguin suit to ring in the new year, but it missed his suitcase.  What was nearly a fashion nightmare was saved by good footwear, as I'm told the loafers looked smashing with his pj's.

ready for the playground!

Philip's mama is following one of baby fashion's golden rules: never let a good look go to waste.  The tux may have missed the New Year, but Philip was looking sharp for his next play date!

Thanks to Philip's mama, Alison Lundqvist for the photos.  And can I just mention those lashes!? Philip, please bottle whatever it is you've got and send me some! xo

baby meet-up

Lil's first play clothes

Today Lil and I headed over to a cafe near McCarren Park to meet up with a few other mamas with babies around Lil's age. We are so glad to get to meet new people who live in our neighborhood, especially people our same age (both Lil and Mama).  In this group, Lil definitely has some competition in the best-dressed department.  There was one baby in particular who caught my eye, a little sweet pea named Agnes.  You'd never guess by looking at this wee sweetie, but she's actually 2 weeks older than Lil. Agnes was dressed in khaki and lime green, a perfect palette for early spring.  Her little jacket features a flower applique, and she even wore lime green maryjane socks from Trumpette... too cute!

Agnes est trés chic!
You may think our activities would be limited with such small babies.  Indeed, the babies themselves don't do much more than eat, sleep, and spit up,  but the meet-up is also for the mamas.  No matter how many people you know who have or have had kids, there's nothing quite like finding other (new) parents with babies the same age, who all live in the same neighborhood.  Even though our main connection is our babies, I'm willing to bet we'll find we have much more in common than our kids.

Thanks to Gracie for the ivory corduroy overalls and polka dot bodysuit!
