play day, play day

Lil to plush bowling pins: "you're all going down."

It's been rainy, rainy, rainy here is Brooklyn (not to mention the little issue with Mama's energy levels these days), so Lil has been getting a good deal of face time with the ol' toy bin. Originally it was storing Mama's spring/summer wardrobe, so it's a fairly good-sized bin. Lil is still too small to reach everything at the bottom of the bin and we ended up tipping it on its side, which made Lil Miss ever-so happy.

we capsized... stuffed animals overboard!

I am just happy she's good at the picking-up part of it as well. It even made the cacophony of battery-operated musical toys bearable. Her favorite activities are currently dancing, hiding toys in mama's sock drawer, and bowling. As if that's not enough fun, she's finally learning to clean. Is there a more perfect baby?

rain delay

Today we went to volunteer for the Bushwick CSA. Our volunteer duties entailed checking off names on a list, and making sure no hipsters ran off with loads of eggplant, but we mostly just stood there in the rain. This was Lil's first real outing in the rain, but since she's not a walker yet, there were no cute galoshes, no tiny umbrella, and no adorable raincoat.  (Mama was equally ill-suited for the weather, a pair of black moccasins and a baseball cap were the only things keeping her dry.) Lil's Maclaren stroller came with a fitted rain cover which kept Lil nice and dry, though it may have distorted her view of all the new faces she greeted.  A chill in the air meant an extra polka-dotted layer, but the chocolate pants and teal hoodie looked pretty fresh. Unfortunately Lil peeled off her matching Trumpette socks when Mama wasn't looking, and one of them was later recovered from a mud puddle. It's a miracle she didn't end up with a Lil chill.

home again, home again jiggity jig...

The Bushwick Food Co-Op was set up inside, so we ducked our wet heads in to munch on dried fruits. Lil enjoyed the dried figs so much, we purchased a small bag. With only a few more CSA pick-ups remaining, the Co-Op might be our only source for local produce, meat and dairy. As Lil's world gets bigger, her pallet seems to get more refined.

from the vacation archives

When I realized these photos were missing from the vacation reel, I was going to reshoot Lil in the jellyfish pj's from Sozo (another Zulilly score) today.  But I forgot to photograph before her banana rice smoothie.  So.... today's pics are from the vault.

from sleepy time to lounge wear

It's always hard to figure out what a baby should wear to sleep on hot summer nights.  A diaper and a bodysuit would be fine, except a bodysuit won't snap over her fluffy nighttime diaper.  So why not just let her sleep in a dipe?  Babies sweat a lot.  And it's much easier to change a set of pj's than a fitted crib sheet.  That leaves a couple lightweight sleep sacks, and some short-sleeved sets like this one.  The best thing about the jellyfish motif- the bubbles glow in the dark.

For an added bonus, here's Lil on a rainy day at the beach, stretched out on a picnic blanket with a few toys, just rolling around on the floor.  Her little fish capris and A-line tunic are a new addition from Grandma, perfectly timed since Mama didn't pack any indoor play clothes.

velour is perfect rainy day attire

Nasty days are good for few things beside napping and cuddles. What better attire than a $3.00 black velour jumpsuit from baby Gap? Today Lil chose Jerome Giraffe as her cuddly companion, proving once again that animal prints are irresistible for Spring.

Today is also my first day using the Olympus EPL-1 instead of my cell phone.  Until now I've been using an Android app to upload photos directly to the blog, and even add new entries.  Although you can't beat that kind of convenience, these photos are so much nicer.  My phone didn't even capture the detail of the ruffled collar on her jumpsuit.
