a room of her own

PC119947
boundaries are just out of reach

After 10 months, 3 weeks, and 4 days, Lil finally has her own room... more or less. Instead of sharing with Mama and Papa, she now rooms with Papa's computer, record collection, and some books. But she has enough space to sleep, get dressed, read a story, and crawl around. Mama and Papa stood by as Lil explored her new space, and we held our breath waiting for Lil to break something, or possibly herself. There's still a few less-than-safe areas (under the desk), but for now they're simply blockaded with a box and a chair.

I hope there's enough room left to work in the "office."

Lil's layered look was inspired by the brisk chill that's finally graced our fair city. Her fall dress is beefed up with an organic cotton onesie, and the ruffled argyle BabyLegs are covering a pair of knit tights. Since there's no sign of snow (yet), Lil is still able to sport a pair of Fancy Nancy MaryJanes from Cousin Jos. We are still looking for some good first-walker snow boots. I still have no idea how one learns to walk on icy sidewalks. Anyone know if they make baby-sized crampons?

weekend update #12: third quarter report

PA156608

This was the first real autumnal weekend of the season, one that makes you break out a woolly wrap, slouchy hat and knee-high boots.  Lil's grandparents came for a visit, and brought some new handwoven sweaters (yay!) and a crucial piece for Lil's Halloween costume. If you don't know what she's going to be, then you'll have to wait for the big reveal on (or around) the 31st.

Everyone headed out for a nice walk, and a bite at Lil's favorite hangout, Tuffet.  There was lots of yummy stuff for everyone, and the beautiful afternoon sunlight lit up those baby blues like something celestial. The purple plaid blouse may have helped, too.  Those colors always seem to light Lil up, and the teal lining of her hoodie probably didn't hurt none.  Paired with her skinny jeans and a pair of hunter slippers, Lil was ready to pose in a pumpkin patch... or here in Brooklyn, with a few apple pieces.  After a little snuggle in her mama's arms, Lil was perfectly content to let the grown-ups snack on imported meats and cheeses, drink some Octoberfest ales, and sample a preview of Tuffet's "Cider Week" offerings.  Obviously, the season's treats are not just for kids.

Sunday marked Lil's three-fourths birthday.  At nine months, Lil has a lot to say about a lot of things.  She mimics what we say, and some of what we do, she sits, stands, crawls, and "pets" the cats. She eats all sorts of things (purees, finger foods, and she's still nursing too), drinks from a cup (with or without a sippy spout), goes to swim class, and an occasional "movement workshop."  I have no idea how much she's grown, but we find out later this week! It's been a busy and fashionable three-quarters of a year, and the last quarter promises to finish strong.  We still have outerwear and footwear to look forward to.

Lil didn't celebrate nine months with any kind of well-coordinated outfit.  She didn't go anywhere special or get any presents.  Instead, she spent the morning swimming with her Papa, the cuddled up in a pair of old-fashioned sweats and her favorite tee-shirt, played with her kitties, and took a nap.  I whipped up some a salmon fillet with baby carrots steamed in orange juice for her dinner, and then she got a relaxing soak in the tub before bed.

Not a bad day for someone approaching toddlerdom.

what the fluff?

Oh HAI there!
So you've been asking, "Lil, where have you been?" We are sorry. The truth is, we've been around, here and there, but we've just been a little busy.  We promise to try to be more Everyday rather than Occasional!

Yesterday, Lil went to visit Papa at work.  But she looked so sweet in a little fuchsia plaid dress with matching footie tights and a brown velour jacket that we forgot to take a picture!  That's ok, though, because all of our PSYOP readers got to meet Lil in person.  Proud Papa toted her from one floor to the next so she could meet all her admirers, and secretly, to make some of the other papas jealous.  The only photo Mama snapped was this embarrassing little image of Lil sound asleep with a cracker in her mouth... but look how nicely the polka dot ribbon trim on her jacket compliments that bold plaid.

baby got back
Since Lil crawls around so much, it means two basic things: 1- it's near impossible to get a good shot of her from the front, 2- her bum is in need of some flare.  Mama found these little ruffle bottom knickers for Lil to wear under her fancy occasion dresses, but with this little vintage baby doll top it makes a casual but super girlie crawler's outfit.  Lil may be a long way from Apple Bottom jeans (thank goodness), but her backside is quickly becoming her best side.

everything is up for grabs

She won't slow down for much, but Mama still manages to grab her attention once in a while.
