preppy in pink

for babies, pants are optional

Personally, I've never been comfortable in polo shirts and cotton twill.  I'm not a starched white shirt  kind of girl.  I can appreciate the crisp look on others, but I live for slub and open weaves.  Babies don't have their style set from birth. It's up to us to determine what is suitable, what looks best.  Some parents follow their own fashion sense, and buy what they like.  Others go age appropriate with teddy bear prints and lots of fleece.  Sometimes we choose the least baby-like attire and go for that.  I think Lil benefits from a large array from the style spectrum.  Hopefully her taste buds will be as venturous and varied as her wardrobe.

Today Lil goes preppy.  In head to toe pink, this country club orphan is ready for the front nine before nap time.  If she had sensible flats and a Coach bag, she might be mistaken for the world's youngest PTA leader.  Don't get any ideas- that does not make me the next Nancy Botwin.

I would like a review of last week's minutes, please.

Lil would like to thank Mama's friend Chelsea, owner of Chelsea Modern Images for the freaking cute prepster bodysuit and slacks, and Boop, the bear rattle (not pictured).  Plus, Mama finds lots of  inspiration from her beautiful photography! If Lil joins the debate team, tennis team, or pep squad, we'll know why.

pinky and the brain

P5135517

After going on and on about girlie things and boyish things, and how none of it really matters, that babies are babies, I decided to go and dress Lil head-to-toe in pink.  Lil just met this new friend, a super soft pink Gund bear.  There's one rule about Gund bears- they are all boys.  Even the pink ones.

This bear still needs a name, so we're considering his best features before a decision is made.  So far the best part of him seems to be his nose.  Lil keeps sticking it right in her mouth.  Silly Lilly.

daisy, daisy...

"... give me your answer, do. I'm have crazy all for the love of you."

Pink. Florals. Peter Pan collar. Everything I like least in babywear.  But on Lil, it all looks so sweet together.  Just this once I was powerless to resist.

I was hoping for some pictures outside in the park today, but this outfit got slimed about five minutes after this photo was taken.  We had to revert to this previously seen dress instead.

you better work (covergirl)...

Lil knows when she's having her picture taken.  Although she may still be too uncoordinated to give face, she can still give eye.  When I put her in the trendiest outfit yet- an impressionist-inspired peasant blouse and a knit wool soaker from Sustainablebabyish (purchased second-hand)- it became obvious that this baby knows how to work it-- and she can't even sit up yet.

She even threw a hissy fit when I handed her a bow and said, "here, put this on." She flat out refused, and then she spit her pacifier at me (the nerve...)!  But once the camera is on her, it's all light and love and smiles.  She is captivated by the click, click, click of the shutter.  And though I don't use the word diva because I believe it's wholly inappropriate for a tiny child, there is something going on in this baby brain that I can't quite describe.  I shouldn't have to.  You can see it on her face.

Lil n' Friends

Today we had a special guest stylist, Malika Green, artist and footwear designer.  Two months old and she already knows a clothing designer and a footwear designer- talk about networking!  Now to convince these talented people to launch a line of babywear.  Malika has started making shoes for her own daughter, two year-old Lia, and we're anxiously awaiting those hand-me-downs!

Lil is becoming quite the social butterfly, a fact which is reflected by today's outfit.  The embroidered butterfly on the shoulder of this romper is more than adorable, it's clearly the badge of a baby socialite.
The cute little snail matches with Lil's pacifier, which for the moment, she has traded in for her fist.  Malika brought Lil a new toy, Tiki Monkey.  Hopefully Tiki Monkey will get Lil in the mood for a trip to Hawaii, and convince her to be well-behaved on a 13-hour flight.  She also hung out with Jerome Giraffe, and The Kitty.  During naptime she spent some time with the Seahorsey, the musical seahorse.  A little "Twinkle, Twinkle," will get you in good with this infant in no time.

animal analogy #1... and an announcement.

Am I a monkey?

There are too many cute pictures today.  Perhaps it was just good lighting or Lil's pleasant mood, but I think it had more to do with divine grace.  Way out in California, Lil's baby boy cousin was coming into the world, right as these photos were being taken. That bit of anticipation added a lot to the composition.  I guess that's why she hasn't bothered to nap today, either.  She must be way too excited to sleep!

it's a boy?!

"Daddy's Little Monkey" isn't too far off the mark.  I'm sure as Lil grows, she'll become more adventurous, curious, and monkey-like in other ways (though I hope she abstains from poo-flinging).  For now, I prefer to compare her to a bunny, or a kitten.  Something warm and cuddly.

The Kitty approves.

Today Lil is sporting brown and pink velour karate pants and a pair of Nowali baby moccasins.  They're great crib shoes, I think these are the only things I don't have to worry about falling off her feet.  This entire ensemble came in a big bag of goodies from Auntie London. Thank you London!
