weekend update #13

This weekend Lil attended her first 1st birthday party! It was lots of fun for her, as she got to play with some of her baby friends.  This party had a super hero theme, and while Lil forgot to have her full Wonder Woman regalia dry cleaned, Mama did have her super hero baby legs and red mini skirt ready to go!

Sunday was a quiet day.  Lil went to her last swim class with Papa while Mama stayed home and did virtually nothing.  Papa bragged that Lil was the best swimmer, that she was doing all the best kicking and even blowing bubbles!  After class I met them outside, Lil tuckered out and Papa ready for some snacks.  Lil looked so cuddly in her sweat suit that I snapped a quick cell phone picture.  This was the same suit she wore last weekend, but due to a technical glitch only a photo of the bottoms got posted! So this week you finally get to see the top.

After four weeks, her first cold, two new teeth, and two really tough weekends away from home, Lil is back in the pool at Aqua Beba! As soon as she was in the water, it was as if she hadn't missed a single class. She was up to her old ways, kicking and splashing and even floating on her back in no time.  The only thing that had changed was her swimsuit size! Looks like Lil will be in a new Imse Vimse swim diaper before her next class.

HOT part 2

We had to go out today.  This was Lil's last day of Starfish level swimming classes.  She wore a new swimsuit, which seemed to spark some Esther Williams quality in Lil.  Our bathing beauty was calm and graceful in the pool, even taking a couple of big solo swims.

The afternoon became "clothing optional."  Instead of covering the baby, we covered the living room in sheets. It seemed to work for Lil.

I never can figure out how to dress Lil for swim class.  She can't wear her swim dipe to the pool, it would defeat the purpose.  Plus it's early in the morning and a tad chilly, but warm by the time we head home.  This morning I just grabbed whatever was closest- her lipstick pink modal cotton hoodie, a leopard print diaper, and a pair of argyle Babylegs.  One of the mamas at swim class complemented her look and said, "you've got to get a picture of that one!"

Taking two trips in one week leaves little time for blogging, but Lil being the super star she is made it all worth the wait.  She got to meet her public, sign autographs, even sit down for a couple interviews.  There was hair, make-up, wardrobe changes, and sadly a few tantrums.  Not to worry, she had a smile and a laugh for everyone she met.

Our week began on the Jersey Shore.  Thank goodness we did not see any MTV reality stars, only wannabes.  Lil was not impressed by overtanning, and donned a big floppy hat and some 45 spf for the beach.  But her best day was spent on the porch in her kiddie pool rather than on the hot sandy shore.  An inch or two of water is more her speed.

Lil also met her first Puppy.  Initially Lil was caught off guard by a sloppy kiss right on her nose, and the realization that this cat was much bigger than the kitties she knew.  But Puppy has a sweet, quiet demeanor, and like any sweet old auntie, just enough patience for a crying baby.

July 4 Lil did stay awake for the fireworks, which she found fascinating.  I guess city babies aren't bothered by all the booms and whistles.

As for her wardrobe, Lil spent the holiday weekend in appropriate beach attire- swim suits and a terry romper which was Mama's instant favorite.  Since the season is so short, and we are on the verge of another growth spurt, this cuddly and absorbent number made several appearances throughout the week.

Midweek we went from the beach to the country.  This was another big car ride for Lil, and after all the thrills of open-air strollers, and the comfort of soft carriers, it was obvious that the rigid constraints of a car seat are not Lil's preferred mode of transport.  Some new gear became necessary, and by the ride home Lil was too tired to put up much of a fight.

Upstate New York was at its prime.  Soft breezes, warm sunshine, and countless shades of green made it a perfect place to be.  Lil was so social and made so many friends, I didn't think I would get her home in one piece.  And of course she saw her doting Granmary, which required some special attire.  Mostly though, Lil had to appear poolside in her adorable romper one more time.  At her first fancy party, Lil met Mama's friends Sarah and Chelsea in this adorable dress.  As the sun set, it was cool enough for her to change into something more casual.  Mama put together a special Flashdance look for no reason other than comfort.

Lil's first family vacation ended with a lovely brunch back in Ithaca with some of Mama's dear friends.  There's never anything better than love all around.

Lil's first swim class featured some classic faux pas, namely don't leak pee in your new swim diaper! Not five minutes after she had on her Imse Vimse swim diaper in pink and red polka dots, Lil let loose in her papa's arms.  Oops.

Smart Mama packed a back-up though.  We used the pocket portion of a Bum Genius 4.0 artist series as a swim suit, and Lil kept it all in during swim time.

Swimming was great.  The pool was located in this really nice condo building not far from home.  It looked kind of like a cave, very dark, very warm, damp, and kinda cozy.  Our pics didn't come out so well, but you get the gist.

Lil was plum tuckered by the end.  She even fell asleep in the pool!  We happened to spend the rest of the rainy afternoon in bed. Yay.
